About Greenery Day in Japan
Midori no Hi originally honoured the birthday of the Showa Emperor, who loved plants and marine biology, and was observed on 29 April. When that date became Showa Day in 2007, Greenery Day moved to 4 May. Before the change, 4 May had been a day off only because it sat between two holidays. Many parks and botanical gardens offer free entry.
